Impala Terminals Group inaugurates latest dry bulk facility
Impala Terminals Group, a leading global liquid and dry bulk storage infrastructure operator, has inaugurated its latest dry bulk facility.
The state-of-the-art site in the Port of Arica industrial zone in northern Chile comprises an 8km2 warehouse, office space, and additional facilities across a 30km2 site.
Arica is the primary Pacific maritime gateway and a key artery for trade between South American markets and Asia. The Port connects landlocked Bolivia and parts of Brazil to international markets.
As the latest addition to Impala’s growing global portfolio, the Arica facility will handle Bolivian mineral concentrates transported by truck. The site has been built to the highest environmental standards, and its strategic location allows trucks to discharge goods in an industrial area without entering the city.
In a two-stage export process, concentrates arrive by truck to a fully enclosed warehouse, then transferred into fully sealed rotating containers and taken to the port for bulk loading. This offers safer concentrates transportation, reduces congestion in the city and reduces the environmental impact of operations.
The greenfield project took just over two years to complete from concept stage, with construction finalised at the end of 2025 and final operating permits received in Spring 2026.
Impala Terminals Group Deputy Director for Latin America, Roland Devenyi, commented: “This project has been an excellent example of collaboration between stakeholders to achieve completion in just over two years, and we open fully contracted, having created 40 new jobs at the site.
“We are delighted to cement our presence in the Port of Arica and look forward to playing our part in its continued expansion and growth in the years to come.”
