Impala Terminals Peru receives Excellence Award for maintaining high security and safety standards

Impala, the global terminals operator that provides port, warehousing and multi-modal logistics services, last month received the “Trébol de Oro 2014” award for maintaining high security and safety standards in its operations in Callao, Peru. The excellence awards, sponsored and awarded by global insurance company MAPFRE, reviewed over 2,000 Peruvian companies from different business backgrounds.

Impala Terminals stood out for its efforts to prevent any type of workplace accidents, not only those associated with lost worktime. Thanks to the implementation of strict internal guidelines, overall accident indicators – as measured by frequency of events, severity of incidents and rate of accidents – have significantly dropped over the years.

In 2014, Impala moved to enhance its procedures and align them with best practice under the BS OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management standard. This led to the alignment of performance with an internationally recognised benchmark, requiring the implementation of new security concepts and the development of new safety procedures, as well as a training programme for employees.

We’re very proud of the public recognition of our efforts in terms of setting and maintaining security and safety standards. We’re guided by principles of responsible behaviour of which our commitments to safety, environmental protection and a deep respect for communities are essential pillars,” said Miguel Angel Martinez, General Manager at Impala Terminals Peru.
